Let angel forms angelic truths maintain;
Nature disjoints the beauteous, & prophane.
For what's true beauty, but fair virtues face?
Virtue made visible in outward grace?
. . . [2 lines, then 1 3/4 column essay by a husband
declaiming his wife's infidelity, ending with:
"Without thin decency held up to view,
Naked she stalks o'er law, and gospel too.
Our matrons lead such exemplary lives,
Men sign in vain, for none, but for their wives;
Who marry to be free, to range the more,
And wed one man, to wanton with a score."
[signed] Aaron John Miller, Ludlow, 3d Nov. 1783.
